Does God appear in a form?

First question:

A follower of the illegitimate imams made the claim that God Himself appeared to the Prophet (s.) in a form and laid His hand on the head of Imam Al-Husain (a.). Kamil-uz-Ziyarat is cited as the source on pages 147 to 148. Is this the reality of the report?

Answer:

The servant of Umar lied!

Ibn Abi Ya’fur reported that Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (a.) said: “When the Prophet Muhammad (s.) was in the abode of Fatimah (a.) and Al-Husain (a.) was on his lap, he began to weep and prostrate himself. Then he said: “O Fatimah, O daughter of Muhammad, the Most High appeared to me in your house at this hour in the most beautiful form and shape.” Then He said: “O Muhammad, do you love Al-Husain?” I said: “Yes, O Lord! He is the apple of my eye, my sweet-smelling spice, the fruit of my heart and skin between my eyes.” Then He said: “O Muhammad!” And he put his hand on the head of Al-Husain (a.) and said: “My blessings, My blessings, My blessings, My mercy and My pleasure are upon him from birth. My anger, My curse, My wrath, My punishment, My humiliation and My retribution be upon his murderers and those who are angry with him, hostile to him and fight him! He is the master of the former and later martyrs in this world and in the next world and he is the master of the inhabitants of the Garden of Paradise among all creatures and his Father is more excellent and better than him. Give him My greeting of peace and proclaim to him the good news that he is the flag of guidance and the guiding star of the patrons appointed by Me. He is My Protector, My Witness of My creation, the Keeper of My knowledge and My proof for the inhabitants of the heavenly and earthly worlds and two weighty things, the spiritual beings and human beings.” [Kamil-uz-Ziyarat of Ja’far Ibn Muhammad Ibn Qawluwaih, pp. 147 – 148 hadith 6; Bihar-ul-Anwar of Al-Majlisi, volume 44 page 238 hadith 29].

Al-Hasan Ibn Ali Ibn Faddal reported that he asked Imam Ali Ar-Rida (a.) about the Word of the Exalted One: “And your Lord comes and the angels, row after row.” – 89:22 – He said: “God is not described by coming or going. He is exalted above changing Himself. The meaning of this is: “And the command of your Lord is coming and the angels, row upon row.” [Nur-ul-Barahin by Ni’matullah Al-Jaza’iri, Volume 1 page 411]

Statements are also known among the innovators, in which God sent an angel to serve Him as a mediator of the conversation.

Proof:

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “Our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted One, descends every night to the lowest heaven until He stays for the last third of the night and says: “Who calls Me to fulfil his supplication, who comes to Me to grant him, who asks Me for forgiveness to forgive him?” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 5962 in Arabic, Book 21 Hadith 241 in English]

Abu Hurairah reported that people said: “O Messenger of God, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?” The Prophet Muhammad (s.) said: “Do you have difficulty seeing the sun in a cloudless sky?” They answered: “No, O Messenger of God!” He said: “Do you have difficulty seeing the moon on a cloudless full moon night?” They answered: “No, O messenger of God!” He said: “Then you will see Him like this on the day of resurrection. Allah will gather the people together and then say: “Whoever used to serve a cause (in My place), let him follow it! Then those who served the sun will follow the sun and those who served the moon will follow the moon and those who served idols will follow idols. This community remains alone and among it are hypocrites. Then God appears to them in a different form than those they know and says: “I am your Lord!” But they say: “We take refuge in God before You! This is our place until our Lord comes to us, for when our Lord comes to us, we will know Him.” Then God appears to them in a form they know and says: “I am your Lord!” Then they say: “You are our Lord!” And they follow Him.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 6204 in Arabic; Book 1 Hadith 349 in English]
