Durust Ibn Abi Mansur reported that Imam Al-Baqir (a.) said:“The prophets and messengers are of four categories. So there is a prophet who is informed in his soul. It does not go beyond another than them, and there is a prophet who sees in his sleep, hears the voice, and does not see him with his own eyes in watchfulness, and he is sent to no one and is under the authority of a leader, as Lot was under the authority of Abraham, and there is a prophet who sees in his sleep, hears the voice, and sees the angel with his own eyes, and is sent to a multitude, small or large in number, like Jonah. God said to Jonah: “We sent him to a hundred thousand or they were more.” (37:147) He said: “They were thirty thousand more and were under the control of a leader, and he who sees in his sleep, hears the voice, and sees with his own eyes while he is a leader, is like the people of determination (46:35) and Abraham was a prophet when he was not an imam, until God said: “I will make you a leader for men.” He said: “Also of my offspring.” Then God said: “My covenant does not extend to those who do wrong.” (2:124) He who worshipped an idol or idols will not be a leader.” [Al-Kafi of Al-Kulaini, Volume 1, Page 175, Hadith 1]

محمد بن يحيى عن أحمد بن محمد عن أبي يحيى الواسطي عن هشام بن سالم ودرست بن أبي منصور عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليهما السلام قال: الأنبياء والمرسلون على أربع طبقات فنبي منبأ في نفسه لا يعدو غيرها ونبي يرى في النوم ويسمع الصوت ولا يعاينه في اليقظة ولم يبعث إلى أحد وعليه إمام مثل ما كان إبراهيم على لوط عليهما السلام ونبي يرى في منامه ويسمع الصوت ويعاين الملك وقد ارسل إلى طائفة قلوا أو كثروا كيونس قال الله ليونس وأرسلناه إلى مائة ألف أو يزيدون قال يزيدون ثلاثين ألفا وعليه إمام والذي يرى في نومه ويسمع الصوت ويعاين في اليقظة وهو إمام مثل اولي العزم وقد كان إبراهيم عليه السلام نبيا وليس بإمام حتى قال الله إني جاعلك للناس إماما قال ومن ذريتي فقال الله لا ينال عهدي الظالمين من عبد صنما أو وثنا لا يكون إماما

Abdullah Ibn Muskan reported that Faid Ibn Abi Shaibah said: “I heard Abu Abdillah (As-Sadiq) say and he read this verse: “When God made the covenant with the prophets.” (3:81) He said: “To believe in the messenger of God (s.) and to help Ali, the commander of the believers (a.).” I said: “To help the commander of the believers (a.)?” He said: “Yes, by God, starting from Adam. Well then. For God sent neither a prophet nor a messenger, except that He would have them return to the world until they fight in the presence of Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Commander of the Faithful (a.).” [Al-Mukhtasar of Al-Hilli, page 128, Hadith 32]

أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن سنان عن عبد الله بن مسكان عن فيض بن أبي شيبة قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام يقول وتلا هذه الآية وإذ أخذ الله ميثاق النبيين الآية قال ليؤمنن برسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ولينصرن عليا أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام قلت ولينصرن أمير المؤمنين قال نعم والله من لدن آدم عليه السلام فهلم جرا فلم يبعث الله نبيا ولا رسولا إلا رد جميعهم إلى الدنيا حتى يقاتلون بين يدي علي بن أبي طالب أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه
